Review Vampire Diaries Book Series 1-6
My opinion without giving too much away.
The book is poorly written in comparison to the rest of the vampire books I have read thus far. It took me fourteen long nights to read the book series. It seemed like it was written for early middle school students. The book differs greatly from the TV show. Elena has a child aged sister, an extra friend Meredith, Bonnie is a red head, Elena has two Aunts and a soon to be Uncle, her character is a selfish blonde, and most of the character’s last names are among the many differences from the book. I am sure there are more changes, but I do not watch the show and have only watched the first two shows, which this opinion is based on. Damon is thrilling and entertaining to watch, but not so much to read about.
The writers who rewrote the book for the show should get a huge bonus from the author’s book sales.
But that is just my thought process, I may be wrong.
Vampire Academy- Richelle Mead
An opinion without giving too much away.
It took me six nights to finish six books. As in all vampire books there is a struggle of love between two characters, but in this book, it felt as if there were so many others involved that it wasn’t just about the two lead characters, and that there were other people that were heavily involved and that you cared for.
Richelle Mead created a different take on classic vampires. There were different types and levels, as well as classes and education majors for each type. A very creative take on all the vampire twists out there. The main character Rose takes you through the journey of her life as she tries to save her best friend, her boyfriend, her friends, and how she sacrifices certain things in her life for others; through her struggles, her passions, her desires, and her mistakes.
The books are a fast, easy, and entertaining read for late middle school and early high school students. The sixth book combines the entire series and lets the reader have the moral effects of Rose’s actions, how her actions of what she wants and how she gets it weigh on others, and how her actions actually have consequences, which most books and movies do not address.
This is a great book series. I enjoyed it for a vampire story. Giving any details to the book will give too much away.
Sherlock Holmes (British TV Series)
“Sherlock Holmes” is an exceptionally entertaining take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective tales of Sherlock Holmes. It sets Sherlock Holmes in the 21st century and allows him to solve crimes with the tools and technology of this generation. The show is based in modern England with familiarities of the books. Sherlock still lives at 221B Baker Street, but the famous hat and pipe are not part of his well-known image. The show still makes references to his traditional images by photographs taken by the press. He uses texting, computers, GPS, science, psychological disorders that were not yet in Sir Arthurs time, and logics to solve the crimes of this century. John Watson even keeps a blog and Sherlock is trying to quit smoking.
The actors, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (Watson) may not be that well known to the audience in the States, but in due time they will be. This is truly an exceptional show.
Many have taken Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character and created their own versions of him. Sherlock Holmes is a great movie series that I am sure we haven’t seen the end of yet. House is an example of how the characteristics of Sherlock were shifted and twisted to entertain a new generation and a new genre of solving a mystery. Medical mysteries are just as fascinating as criminal mysteries.
“Sherlock Holmes” now goes into the vault of great favorites. But perhaps I have a bias; I did read Sherlock Holmes at twelve and enjoy every version of the high functioning intelligent sociopath.
I could be wrong, but that is just my thought process.
